Social inequality is a fundamental element for dimensioning territorial indicators in addressing the urban social issue, especially in the study of the social exclusion / inclusion relationship and, consequently, for the elaboration of comprehensive and inclusive public policies. Crucially, social vulnerability is defined as a situation in which the resources and skills of a given social group are insufficient and inadequate to deal with the opportunities offered by society. The objective was to identify areas of social vulnerability in the municipality of Campina Grande. This is an exploratory qualitative and quantitative study, based on secondary data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. Project R for Statistical Computing was used for statistical analysis. 24 neighborhoods with “very high or high social vulnerability” were identified. The results presented in this study are relevant and unprecedented, consequently the knowledge of the local reality, object of this study, can contribute to the strengthening of public policies in general.
