Abstract:

Urinary Incontinence is defined by the International Continence Society as the complaint of any involuntary loss of urine; this dysfunction exerts multiple effects on daily activities, social interaction and perception of one's own health, significantly affecting incontinent quality of life. Objective: to verify the quality of life of women undergoing combined electrostimulation and perineal exercises in urinary incontinence. Material and methods: it is a descriptive, longitudinal study of quantitative character. Data collection was performed through the patient records that contained a physical therapy evaluation with the following data: strength and muscle tone evaluation, clitoral and anal reflexes, electrostimulation, perineal exercises. And later the King's Health Questionnaire was applied, in which it was previously validated for Portuguese. Results: the analysis of the quality of life before and after physical therapy indicated that there was improvement in all domains of the questionnaire. The domains with the highest gain in quality of life were: emotional aspects and measure of severity. Discussion: Urinary incontinence as seen in this study had a great influence on the quality of life, showing that the impact of Urinary Incontinence was the most important factor among the interviewees when compared to other aspects, which shows that physiotherapy has positive repercussions in the lives of these incontinents. Conclusion: it is important to make an early diagnosis and appropriate intervention to confirm a better understanding of causes, treatment and prevention.
