Óbitos por causas externas em adolescentes, no município de teresina-piauí

Objective: To evaluate deaths due to external causes, which occurred in adolescents in the city of Teresina-Piauí. Methodology: This was a quantitative, documentary, retrospective research based on secondary data from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) and Mortality Information System (SIM). Results: The present study analyzed a total of 1,010 deaths from external causes in adolescents in the city of Teresina Piauí in the period from 2006 to 2016. Among the main causes of deaths, transport accidents stood out. The male gender had the highest incidence of deaths, the year in which the most deaths occurred was 2014 and the year 2009 was the one with the lowest incidence. The months with the highest occurrences of deaths were May and October, the age group that stood out in the deaths was 15 to 19 years old, the most common place of occurrence of deaths was on public roads. Conclusion: The research enabled a detailed profile on adolescent deaths in Teresina Piauí in the years 2006 to 2016. It is hoped that the research can contribute to future studies on the theme, which helps to improve accident and death prevention programs in adolescence.
