The objective of this study was to determine the sample size needed to analyze physical and chemical characteristics of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Degener) after harvest.Fruits harvested from a one year old orchard were used. Ten physical characters were analyzed (longitudinal length, equatorial diameter, shell thickness, fruit mass, peel mass, pulp mass, pulp yield, weight of 100 seeds, number of seeds per fruit and total seed weight per fruit) and four chemical characters (titratable acidity (TA), soluble solids (SS), pH and SS / TA ratio) in 160 fruits.Subsequently, the sample size for each character was determined.Samples using 24 BRS Ouro Vermelho sour passion fruit per treatment are sufficient for the estimation of all characters in a completely randomized experiment, with an error of 10% of the mean.
