Abstract:

Oncohematological patients have immunological fragility due to the systemic impairment caused by the pathology and effects of immunosuppressive treatments. These factors lead to the need for hospitalization and more complex care such as those available in the ICU. Despite the advanced support, some patients die and some factors are predictors of death in the ICU. Methodology: Descriptive, retrospective and quantitative study, carried out in a public oncology reference hospital in Pará. The sources of information were medical records of oncohematological patients. Data analysis was performed using simple descriptive statistics. Results: A profile of mostly female patients, with an average of 44.5 years, with the most frequent diagnoses of ALL, AML and CML, who underwent at least one chemotherapy cycle was evidenced. The evolution time until death was 13.7 months. IrpAg was observed as a reason for admission to the ICU, leading to the need for the use of invasive mechanical ventilation. The main complications observed were infectious and hematological and had a direct impact on the cause of death: septic shock. Final considerations: The analysis of data related to deaths and mortality rates are essential in the health area, from which one can have subsidies for clinical practice.
