The objective was to analyze how to lead the nurse in the face of prevention of VTE to the surgical patient in the preoperative period. This is an integrative review. The literary survey was carried out from January to June 2020. Through the database of the Virtual Health Library, SCIELO and LILACS portal. The descriptors used were: "Venous Tromboembolism", "Nursing Care" and "Perioperative Assistance". A research found 37 articles, although only 15 were used, covering the topic addressed. The study allows us to understand the importance of nursing practices for prevention and early diagnosis of complications. It is known that there is a need to implement care in situations of thromboembolism, be it mechanical or medication, assessing the risk factors that the user presents, considering their clinical conditions. Therefore, observe whether the practice in the practice of preventing venous thromboembolism. It is the nurse's role to strictly apply the risk assessment protocols, so that risk users obtain the prohibition according to their need.
