Calcium ions play an important role in neuro-transmission. The pre-synaptic calcium channel in neurons regulates the synaptic space release of neurotransmitters. Post-synaptic calcium channels in neurons are involved in the transcriptional action of neurons. The extra-synaptic calcium channels in neurons are involved in glucose metabolism, Excessive calcium in neuronal cells activates apoptotic pathways and is a fundamental cause of brain disease.
