This study has as goal to identify the factors linked to abdominal obesity in the elderly people living in a community. This is an epidemiological cross-sectional population-based study, carried out with all subjects with age ≥ 60 years old residents in an interior city of Bahia. It was performed the Poisson regression with p-value<0.05 for inferential analysis. There were studied 179 elderly people, with age between 60 and 91 years old. The prevalence of inadequate Waist-Hip Ratio was 84.4% and it was associated with the female gender (RP 1.29), high triglycerides (RP 1.15) and overweight (RP 1.14). It is concluded that there is great prevalence of abdominal obesity in the elderly people living in the community, showing association with the female sex, increased triglycerides and overweight.
