Introduction: Nursing is a science that has developed over the decades, maintaining a relationship with the history of civilization. In addition to science, it is a profession with an important role in assisting the best and the community, as it seeks to promote the well-being of human life and quality of life. Methodology: This reflection addresses nursing care for patients in the preoperative period and discusses the importance of nursing care directed to these patients in this period, with the aim of mitigating the illness and the negative impact of this moment that precedes the surgical procedure- surgery on the quality of life of this population. Approach: The Surgical Center (CC) the environment where preventive activities are carried out is also corrective to treatment, whether post-anesthetic recovery is carried out. They are encompassed by the CC as integrated units or rooms, post-anesthetic recovery unit (URPA) and the Material and Sterilization Center (CME). Some devices related to the physical structure of the CC should be observed, such as walls and windows, ventilation, ceiling, lighting, among other devices. In non-surgical care practice, there are animals that, in a more practical way, measure the risk of morbidity and mortality in surgical procedures, except for cardiological ones. Thus, considering the history and physical examination of the patient, age, physical conditioning, laboratory tests and the type of procedure that will be performed. Conclusions: Within the scope of nursing care for the patient during the operative period, some characteristics must be observed that allow the offer to the patient who will be preoperative, to the surgical procedure.
