The aim of this study was to describe the maternal and neonatal variables present at birth of children born with congenital malformations in the state of Pará, Amazon, Brazil, using the Live Birth Information System (SINASC). This is an epidemiological, descriptive, retrospective with a quantitative approach and sectional study based on secondary data on live births with congenital malformations in the state of Pará, from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015. A total of 287,015 births were reported in the state of Pará, among which 1162 had some type of congenital malformation. The total prevalence of congenital malformations in live births in Pará was 40.6 per 10.000 live births. The predominant maternal and neonatal variables were: maternal age group of mothers between 20 and 34 years old (60.7%), with up to 12 years of education and who received up to 6 or fewer prenatal consultations (56%); the cesarean rate was 52.8%; higher frequency of malformations in males (53.8%). Apgar score in the 1st and 5th minutes of life considered good – values from 8 to 10 – being 62.7% and 78.9% respectively. Most births took place in public hospitals (Municipal and State).
