Problems related to medications in pharmacies and drugstores are monitored by health surveillance under current laws and a set of good practices that contribute to the population's health safety. Given the above, this study aimed to describe the importance of pharmacist supervision. This study consisted of a literature search carried out from the collection of data from articles published in the Scielo, Pubmed, Medline and Web of Science databases between the years 2013 to 2021, in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The results indicate that the control in health establishments is carried out by inspection, with the support of sanitary pharmacists, who are the most qualified professionals to intervene because they have technical knowledge about the work object and domain of legislation as an instrument. It is concluded, therefore, that the Regional Councils of Pharmacy have a primordial role in complying with laws and resolutions on pharmaceutical inspection, contributing to sanitary control and protecting the health of the population.
