The role of natural resource potential in sustainable socio-economic development of mountainous regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The course of political and economic processes taking place in a globalizing world has highlighted the issue of developing a long-term development strategy in several countries. Relatedly, at the international conference, initiated by the United Nations and held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, the leaders of 172 states adopted the concept of Sustainable Development.Based on this concept, socio-economic issues of settlements ofthe mountain areas of the Azerbaijan Republic were analyzed, and the existing problems were identified, upon which the recommendations for their solution are proposed.
