Introduction: Congenital syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that is passed from the pregnant woman to the fetus and can cause several disorders, mainly to the fetus, such as malformation, deafness, mental retardation and even fetal death. The most vulnerable populations are needy people, sex workers and injecting drug users, who should be the primary targets of health professionals in order to carry out screening and prevention of the disease. Objective: To report the epidemiological data and the factors that contributed to the occurrence of congenital syphilis in the city of Vitória da Conquista (BA). Methodology: This is a quantitative, exploratory and descriptive research carried out using secondary data from the Superintendence of Health Surveillance (SUVISA) of the Health Secretariat of the State of Bahia (SESAB), in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, in the period from February to March 2019. Data analysis for the periods 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 was performed using the Microsoft Office Excel 2016® program. Results: There is a constant number of cases in the years 2006, 2010 and 2014, with case numbers, respectively, 23, 20 and 22, with a considerable increase in 2018 with 63 confirmed cases of congenital syphilis. Almost all babies were diagnosed by the sixth day of life, with 100% (23) of the cases in 2006, most of them white and female. When it comes to the mother's schooling, a large part of them studied from the incomplete 5th to the 8th grade of Elementary School, with 60% (12) in 2010, mostly performing prenatal consultations, where they are aware of pathology, however, the partners do not perform the treatment. Final considerations: There was a significant increase in the number of congenital syphilis cases over the years, mainly due to low maternal schooling, low socioeconomic status, and absence or no prenatal consultation. This indicates that there are flaws in the strategies used by the municipal health service managers, related to the prevention and combat of the disease.
